Hey guys! It’s been a while since I posted here, but my comic now lives on Tapas, where it’s easier to follow and generally more suited for webcomic posting. I’ll keep updating here too, and will be posting creatures again soon.
First three episodes: Creeping Dread, Percy and The Mating Call
Thunder rolls. Rain falls hard enough to bruise on a small British seaside town. This is summer in Revery.
Caution! The Seaflower Institute advises that during your time in Revery you should:
– Keep your soul in a safe place
– Watch where you walk
– Don’t disturb the faerie circles.
The Seaflower Institute follows the ill-advised exploits of a research team studying the fantastical creatures and peculiar artifacts of a Britain two dimensions over from our own.
The good news: I got my dream project-editing job in a independent publishing house!
The other news: I have a crazy commuting schedule until my partner and I find somewhere to rent, which means I have approximately no free time for crafty stuff until then.
The conclusion: Seaflower will be on a brief hiatus (hopefully no more than a month) until I get settled in Gloucestershire.

Technically, these aren’t creatures- and if you see one, it should be reported immediately for your own safety.
An omen manifest is a summoned energy, that possesses the ‘body’ made for it by the summoner. The body must be made from a bone and animal hair.
Summoning an omen is considered a necromantic act, and is illegal.
Hey folks! Life has been in a little upheaval recently, and as much as I’ve tried to not let it effect my posting schedule…obviously it has. Hopefully things are back on track now, but it has been making me think about my progress with the webcomic.
In February I passed the one year mark. When I started Seaflower, I didn’t plan on making it into a comic. It was an exercise in epistolary story telling, or making a narrative out of documents (newspaper clippings, memos etc.)
Overall, I think the comic is a much better way for me to tell this particular story. However, the earlier parts are still in their epistolary format, and I think that needs to change! so, for the next few weeks the ongoing comic will be on pause while I go back and fill in the gaps. There will still be a new comic every week, but they will be comic versions of those old early entries.
Let’s see how this goes!
Keeley found this in the woods just outside of Revery (whilst she was on a routine trip to tag some migratory nightshade plants) and…well, we have no idea what it is.
If it’s a newly discovered entity, that would unfortunately mean she gets to name it- and she’s planning to go with ‘Flufferous Pufferous’, which is a terrible idea and must be stopped.
So I, Jesper Beattie, beseech you: do you recognise this creature? It seems to be young, and unable to fly much yet- we’re searching for a nest it might have fallen from.

Starting mid-February and going on into early spring, waterways across the world come alive with the piping calls of the ‘pond siren’ or ‘mewt’, a freshwater fae.
Stories tell of the mewt confusing travelers in the dark and tricking them into falling in streams and ditches- if you hear a mewt crying, know that you are by a body of water.
Despite their fishy appearance, mewts are in fact mamals, and breathe out of the water- in the late winter you might spot one coming out to bask in the weak sunlight.
